That Quran,which is our most authentic book,doesn't prohibit dogs at all,rather it sees them favorably,and doesn't forbade th to keep them too.Hence any hadith that contradicts to Quran is not true.so based on this fact,I would say that to keep dog as a pet is quite ok only if the person can provide for all it's maintanance and care.

And yeah ,there r at least four verses in Quran that explicitly prohibit "Pork" but there is no such thing against dog.

I used to have a German shepherd (miss that lil dude) and a doberman before that. I like dogs more than cats, except when the "dog" is tiny and looks like a rat or something. Those are evil.

Im pretty sure Constantine known more about Dogs and Islam, he can correct me if i am wrong. According to islam, a wet dog is unclean, and if it touches your clothes, you cannot perform Salaat/Namaaz in those clothes. A dry dog (which is their condition 99% of the time, if you dont live by a river or gutter ) is permissible for hunting and guarding. Its a god made creator to facilitate human beeings

From what I understand, its the saliva that is naajis ...

With regard to dogs, there are three views among the scholars:

1 – That they are taahir (pure), even their saliva. This is the view of Maalik.

2 – That they are naajis (impure), even their hair. This is the view of al-Shaafa’i and is one of the two views narrated from Ahmad.

3 – Their hair is taahir but their saliva is naajis. This is the view of Abu Haneefah and of Ahmad in the other report narrated from him.

This is the most correct view. So if the wetness of the dog’s hair gets onto one’s garment or body, that does not make it naajis. End quote.
