Salam all,

I thought instead of starting diff threads (in diff sections) about which food is halal or haram.. let's put it all in here... don't simply copy paste long fatwas in here.. but just a place to discuss foods, food places, and ingredients.

sorry sorry sorry guys i took wat i said before back

I just talked to my ex-roomate who is a jew and she told me that Fish is Kosher but not other seafood like lobster, shrimps etc etc .. therefore Gelatin made from fish is kosher as well as halal... having said that.. about gum .. check this:

Following info is from Wrigley Jr. Company's website
Are your products Kosher?
Our products are not currently kosher certified, and we are not aware of any plans to begin certifying them at this time.

Wirgley Jr. Company's products include:
IPB Image
IPB Image
IPB Image
IPB Image
IPB Image
IPB Image

there are too many... click on this link to see all of their products Lhttp://www.wrigley.com/wrigley/products/products_index.asp

so yes these are all Haram

and.....my Canadian Excel-lover friends... check this out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Excel_(gum)
so i suppose this makes Excel haram as well dry.gif

also:
Is Trident® kosher?
Trident®is not kosher.

Strawberry Triple Thick® Shake:
Shake Mix: Whole milk, sucrose, cream, nonfat milk solids, corn syrup solids, mono and diglycerides, guar gum, imitation vanilla flavor, carrageenan, cellulose gum, vitamin A palmitate. Contains milk ingredients. Strawberry Syrup: Sugar, strawberries, water, high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, natural (vegetable source) and artificial flavors, pectin, citric acid, xanthan gum, potassium sorbate (a preservative), caramel color, FD&C Red #40, calcium chloride. May contain small amounts of other shake flavors served at the restaurant, including egg ingredients when Egg Nog Shakes are available.
Source: http://www.mcdonalds.com/app_controller.nu...ents.index.html

mono and diglycerides:
Mono and diglycerides come from animal or vegetable sources. When they come from vegetable sources, they are Halal. When they come from animal sources, they may be Haram. More information is needed to find out if they are Halal. If the mono and diglycerides come from an animal that is slaughtered according to Islamic law (Zabihah), and the preparation that follows is Halal, then they are Halal. Halal consumers should avoid products containing mono and diglycerides unless they are labelled as 100% vegetable mono and diglycerides.

for Doritos (or Cheetos, Cracker Jack, Fritos, Funyuns, Grandma's, Lay's, Lay's STAX, Munchies Snack Mix, Rold Gold, Ruffles, Sunchips
, Tostitos) they don't have any info online.. i think the best thing to do would be to look up the exact product online (cuz they have soooo many .. like even within doritos there are many variations) and then call em n ask em bout the specific product... if anyone calls it would be nice if you guys share it here with the rest

There is such a thing as cow gelatin.

That may not be the correct notation, but I've called Kraft and General Mills about their cereals that contain marshmellows and both told me that the source of gelatin included pork based. On the other hand, when I inquired about skittles, I was told they are non-pork gelatin (based on beef/cow and goat etc.).

I believe gelatin can be obtained from the bones of any animal, however, if you know more details, it would certainly help us all.

well, pork based is haram. However, non-zabiha is a totally different case. There are many respected Muslim scholars who say eating from ahl-kitab chicken/beef is allowed, so it's basically an issue on which there is a valid difference of opinion. So basically non-zabiha is not the same category as pork. So Muslims eat non-zabiha while others don't, it's a whole other discussion topic.

There are cetain steps u must take b4 u can eat non-zabiha ... by non-zabiha ... r u referring to slaughtered animals but not under islamic conditions? .. If so ... then u can eat it if and only if there is no way u can obtain halaal meat or koshir meat. If ur referring to obtaining gelatin from non-zabiha as in the animal is still alive ... then any gelatin u obtain from the the animals we are allowed to consume is permissible ...

hope that made sense unsure.gif
