hi guys!
post ur favourite books' reviews here!

one of ma fav book is PARA DISE
by Judith McNaught!
i wrote this review for ma cuzun
posting here!

PARADISE is Judith McNaught’s most wonderful, deeply emotional novel yet, a spellbinding story of youth, passion, family loyalties, and the fateful events that lead two special people to the miracle of a second chance to fall in love with each other all over again. This is the story of two very different people from very different worlds, and family backgrounds who, against all odds, love each other. But unfortunately, their fates cruelly rip them apart and scar their lives forever. Reunited unwillingly ten years later, they work to overcome the feelings of hate and hurt and a series of misunderstandings in their lives.
Meredith Bancroft, a beautiful blonde and Matthew Farrell, an intense, magnetic tycoon, are haunted by their once-in-a-lifetime love…betrayed in a conflict of heartache and pain. When the Bancroft family empire is threatened by a hostile takeover attempt, Meredith is forced to turn to Matt. As tensions build between them, bittersweet memories rise to the surface, leaving both of them uncertain, restless and falling in love again!

I loved the book THe Outsiders by SE Hilton. I read it in 8th grade and i remember falling in love with it. i cried when i read and i dont cry easily so thats saying a lot. I dont exactly remember what it was about...something to do with Ponyboy and darryl. It was based on the greasers and socs and the turmoil and conflict between them. Its also about what its like to be a teen and to live the hard life. One of my fav quotes from the book "nothing gold stays" (this was said when the two characters were watchin a beautiful sunset i think and its actually a line from robert frost's poem).

Im currently reading Kurt Vonnegut's book called Slaughterhouse-five. Its a great book. There are so many flashbacks in it and its amazing becuase the thoughts are so scattered yet organized. its based on a character "billy pilgrim" and his experience with the war and fire-bombing in Dresden and its aftermath among other things.

Grapes of Wrath by Steinbeck is also a must read. Its about a family (amonst others) and their hopeless struggle durin the dust bowl and the American economic depression (the Great Depression).

gee thanks for ruining it dry.gif 8.gif

I recommend David Eddings.... I haven't written a review yet, but when I do I'll post it.
He's written the Belgariad, The Mallorean,(series) and related novels. It's fantasy, not to be confused with sci-fi..he hates that lol. More info later.

anytime Creed 7.gif oooh yeah @ David Eddings, I really like his Rivan Codex (i think thats how it was spelt), but I've not gotten into any of his series properly. However i absolutely love his ''Redemption of Althalus'', co-written David and Leigh Eddings..i'll review that some time.

hmm fave is LOTR but don't think there is enough space to put my never ending thoughts on that..so i give thee

Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen

The story revolves around the Bennet family, which consists of a country squire, his wife and their five spirited daughters. The main characters and story of the novel is the relationship between aristrocrat Mr. Darcy and the second oldest an most headstrong Bennet girl , Elizabeth. Who's misconceptions and prejudice of each other, and own pride get in the way of their love story. I just love this book, it's period, it's by austen, has lots of different characters who are sometimes loud, lovable and quirky or just plain annoying. The mother's quest to get her daughters married off, and to some rich guy with status is funny. Lol reminds me of an asian family. I don't normally go for romances, but this is so much more even though most of it is about Darcy and Lizzy. It has everything so if you haven't read it, its a must! smile.gif

A stone for Danny Fisher

its one of my favourite books

here goes its review
http://www.nydailynews.com/city_life/big_t...58p-16843c.html

Danny's book was generally regarded as Robbins' best work in a long lifetime of churning out best-selling potboilers, and upon Robbins' death in 1997, the words carved into Danny's stone were set into Robbins' stone as well.

read it wid a box of tissue papers 6.gif

THE DA VINCI CODE by Dan Brown

As I am a certified foodie, I'm also a certified bookie, so when I say a book is good, It's GOOD! And I say this book RULEZ! Bloody RULEZ! It's well-written, intelligent and FUN! I can guarantee you a wonderful time with this book.

Review: With The Da Vinci Code, Dan Brown masterfully concocts an intelligent and lucid thriller that marries the gusto of an international murder mystery with a collection of fascinating esoteria culled from 2,000 years of Western history.
A murder in the silent after-hour halls of the Louvre museum reveals a sinister plot to uncover a secret that has been protected by a clandestine society since the days of Christ. The victim is a high-ranking agent of this ancient society who, in the moments before his death, manages to leave gruesome clues at the scene that only his granddaughter, noted cryptographer Sophie Neveu, and Robert Langdon, a famed symbologist, can untangle. The duo become both suspects and detectives searching for not only Neveu's grandfather's murderer but also the stunning secret of the ages he was charged to protect. Mere steps ahead of the authorities and the deadly competition, the mystery leads Neveu and Langdon on a breathless flight through France, England, and history itself. Brown (Angels and Demons) has created a page-turning thriller that also provides an amazing interpretation of Western history. Brown's hero and heroine embark on a lofty and intriguing exploration of some of Western culture's greatest mysteries--from the nature of the Mona Lisa's smile to the secret of the Holy Grail. Though some will quibble with the veracity of Brown's conjectures, therein lies the fun. The Da Vinci Code is an enthralling read that provides rich food for thought.

Before the Da Vinci Code, I read Flowers For Algernon by Daniel Keyes, I was soaked.. no, DRENCHED in my own tears. I can't remember how much this book moved me, it was so touching and sad! I loved it..!

Review: It's about a retarded adult's stuggle to become 'smart'. He goes through a major research operation, which highers his intelligence by 3 times; makes him a genious!! But then later, his mind starts detoriating and he realizes intelligence without love is not worth it at all. It is very well-written! It makes you feel like you're in the shoes of a mentally retarded person.. and then I guarantee you after reading this book you would never say the word 'retard' to anyone in your life! (I've certainly stopped).

lol..yeah i know what u mean , thanks for the offer of chewed up books, gosh your much kinder than me..i don't let anyone go near my collection, even if it's family unsure.gif ..i'll look them up sometime. Just now am making my way through the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan (..i thought it had 7 books to the series..but i went to the bookshop yesterday and saw there's 10 rolleyes.gif Its really good, despite it being quite run of the mill fanstasy adventure in parts).

The Sword in the Storm - David Gemmel (fantasy)

This is the first of the Rigante series. Its a great book and very easy to get into (even though it may not be so original in terms of fanstasy stories, but its written by a legend smile.gif) The main character Connaver (Conn) develops in the course of the book and a lot of the story is concentrated on his development and growing. Conn is a Rigante tribesman, who is marked for greatness, has immense potential. He fights for his homeland, aswell as overcome his own demons and face prophesies that affect him. It's a great series.

I read 'The Mallorean' by David Eddings .. its a good read but kinda dragged on a bit at the end and I usually like looong stories (not the best judge of quality buy hey! smile.gif) The princess was an interesting character it seemed like Britney Spears high school clone got implanted in a fantasy story. Didn't quite click, but its all good smile.gif

well i read a "Islamic Art" by Robert Irwin.

"Islamic Art is an illustrated history that takes a broad approach, covering architecture, crafts, and aesthetics as well as "art" in the narrow sense, and placing them within their social and historical context.Almost half the space in Islamic Art is taken up by illustrations, mostly high quality colour photographs of buildings, items, and manuscripts, which provide a splendid accompaniment to the text."

Evening Class by Maeve Binchy

Its one of the best books i ever read!
This book is basically a study of human characters. It revolves around 13 characters from entirely different backgrounds whose paths cross in an Italian evening class and bounds them in one strong tie! its last 2 lines will DEFINITELY make you cry smile.gif

my favorite book is "The Good Earth" by Pearl S. Buck.
it's about a man's struggle to improve his family's life in the revolutionary China.
even when things do get better, he has to encounter the problems within the family.
the author gives many references to this "revolution," the "war in the south," as well the "east ocean enemy" (that's in Dragon Seed also by Buck).
Pearl S. Buck lived in China during the Boxer's Rebellion and the two World Wars.
her books about are about the life in China during troubled times.

Behind this memorable story of the turning point in the lives of two lovers, one risen from the gutter and the other unashamedly drifting towards it, lies the ugly background of the seamy side of New York life. Maryann Flood, a 'model' at 79 Park Avenue, has been arrested on charges of procurement, bribery and blackmail. Mike Keynes is conducting the prosecution but fate seems to have played against him in offering the long sought-after chance of advancement in his career, through the trial of the woman he loves and who loves him. A harrowing story of the love of two people trying to bridge the gap between the law and the New York underworld, under the shadow of the sordid reign of prostitution.

This book is soooooooo GOOD!!!!!!!! I LOVE IT!!! Its about a painting by the famous artist Vermeer. Its a must Read!!! biggrin.gif smile.gif
There's a movie on it tooo....With Scarlette Johannasen

It seems the life and paintings of Dutch artist Johannes Vermeer have provided much inspiration in the world of writing lately with four novels and two non-fiction books published on that subject in the past year.

Her main character, Griet, who works as a maid in the Vermeer household, is totally fictitious. She becomes the artist's assistant and his model for the famous painting. While she poses for Vermeer, and assists in the grinding of ivory and lead to create the paints, she incurs the jealousy of Catharina. As Griet deals with the difficult position in which she is placed, we learn about life in 17th-century Delft. We catch a glimpse of the streets and market places and can almost smell the fish. Chevalier describes how Vermeer positioned his props and his use of light and colour enhanced by the latest invention — the camera obscura.

The appeal of Vermeer's paintings can be attributed to the stillness and domesticity of his interiors. Most of his paintings show a woman involved in a solitary task. There is no hint of the complications and exasperations of married life.

Chevalier's haunting, mysterious novel is rather like the pearl earring of the title small but brilliant, capturing both the light and our hearts.

My favorite book would be "DESTINTY'S ROAD"

its from the Sci Fi genre and written by one of its giants......Larry Niven.

it encompasses both the expanses of human enginuity and imagination and how even in the future our petty meglomania will control our destiny....

eerie similarities to the role of the superpower in our world today.

a must read
