Toronto reeks with melting pot issues. Too many cultures all over the place, with no one having a real identity of their own. I can't say Vancouver is any different. Most people dont have the time to even look you in the eye and smile, but they have all the time in the world to scream, yell, give you a bird, or just growl when they feel like it. A lot of communities want to hang out, live with, and deal with their 'own' only.

However if you like to live in desi pockets, live in Mississauga, or certain areas of Toronto. If you just want to live somewhere, Toronto is as good metropoliton city as any other than snow days and crappy bus service outside city of Toronto. Heard they were thinking of implementing tolls on the downtown streets and highways like New York, so keep that in mind. Don't think Vancouver is suffering in terms of traffic that much, yet.

just a thought PRay.. get a company to sponsor your trip... Or offer a body part on eBay... like the girl who posted a bid for advertising on her pregnant belly so that she can go to Miami to watch the super bowl. Don't think you can get pregnant though...hmm!

It is quite naive to assume that an alcoholic lives in a bubble and is a harmless creature. People do many things while drunk often not even remembering the morning after, and from the sounds of it; the guy wasn't that drunk either. You became an object to him in his drunkardness, and he attempted to follow through. Glad you were in a public situation with someone so you got lucky. Some aren't.

Be practical next time, and be aware of your surroundings. Carry a pepper spray.

South Africa, all over again with the sprinkles of Alqaida spicing it up.

Maybe an expansion into Iran by US, if they can ever pull their troops out of Afghanistan and regroup in Iraq, just maybe.

I'm so bored at the islamic conference that was supposed to revolutionze me, change me, and give me a new perspective. Perhaps I'm not capable of learning anymore.

Its the 'desi' culture that forces the collective morals down your throat, and set similar expectations to be married, working a 'real' job, creating and then consequentially raising a family, and taking care of your immidiate and sometimes extended family. Try not doing any of them, and you will be frowned upon, and some great uncle or auntie will come by and tell you how you are not doing what you should be doing, and how else to run your own damn life.

So the author begs the question of why procreate, when you can adopt.. Why adopt the end-product of someone else's doing? Why get into a self-inflicted debate about whether this child be good enough or not. But if it is your own, then there isn't much to think about. You can't blame anyone but yourself as a biological parent.

Lastly, it is easy to donate than run a charity, it is easier to be part of the bigger picture than painting one . Perhaps the same logic can apply to having your own children than adopting one.

Ms. Pirate, you blisfully miss that when the entire system is concerned, and twisted on top of that, an individual or even a small group can't make a dent in the isssue or the problem at hand. Throw a beaurocratic Pakistani mentality in the mix, and you have literally no hope. The decision and action must come from top, or atleast governing, level down.

There is no system in place for people to sit down with their MPs or MPPs in Pakistan and discuss their concerns. Heck, you can't even approach most of them without getting shot, or bribing their guards. A change is definately needed, but a generation of bad politics can only give birth to another generation of bad, maybe even worse, political mindset. Unfortunately for all of us, even if you are able to create a non-profit organization which picks up any weight whatsoever, your work will be called off, the goons will tear the operation down, and you will be hiding to be save your family.

We are part of a dark, dark culture, and must bear the continous loop of this mindless hell.

There is no tomorrow. It is always TODAY, and before-TODAY. What you do today will become what you did before-today. You can't plan for whats to come, you can't plan for what to do. You can't plan. Period. The luxury to plan is there, but the capability to implement, is not.

Why worry if tomorrow may not be, when today will not be?

Last year's was pretty decent as well. Anyone who can get to Toronto on that weekend is highly encouraged to do so. You will learn something even if you try not to. Guarenteed.

I will be there.. managing one of the sales booths. Hope I get to catch atleast some of it.

when it comes to personal opinions i can observe something one way and you can possibly completely refute it, but does your opinion have more weight than me? It may depend on many variables, like age, experience, background, and perhaps religion.

However, in no circumstance can you tell me that my opinion is wrong, simply because you can't provide a factual arguement against it.

The next questions would be:

-What part of the world you live in?
-Where do you want to live?
-What does your phone number start with?
-What does your phone number end with?
-How old are you?
-Are you ready to be married?
-What do you do when bored?
-It is a horrible day, make me smile.
-Yada, Yada, Yada.

So now that I have asked the question, I am going to give you, the author of the thread, the opportunity to ask these question to his or her favorite members over the PM.

Cheers.

I have no idea where Sufi'ism popped in this thread. I dont adhere to it, nor do I find it any worthy of debating.

For the topic itself, by no means was this a reflection on anyone of you, rather my own.

QUOTE(vitalsignsguy @ Mar 24 2006, 01:34 PM) *

great post indeed, but i still have problem with the line "we took from the indians" but i wont go there...

nyways just one clerification, if i m not mistaken "doesnt even have to be physical" is a bit more complicated....so i wish someone can provide more clerification about that

Teaching your spouse Quran will be one, VSG.
----

For the topic, I would like to repeat my earlier statement that no parent in their right mind, yes even out of happiness [B.S.], would be giving their daughter non-consumable items like fridges, tvs, microwaves, oven, and the list go on.

As a man, I would consider this a slap on the person' dignity who accepts such items.
